First Theft (Both occurred over World Environment Day)
1 rare white peahen. 1 regular peahen. 1 young peacock. 1 mature peacock. All living in a purpose built aviary @ the PaPWFT. Netting above the door was cut open and all the birds were stolen.
Second Theft (Both occurred over World Environment Day)
The number of endangered birds and waterfowl as follows be highlighted along with the facts of the PaPWFT being a National Heritage Site under the National Trust Act: The only Conservation organisation located within an industrial complex in the WORLD. The only Conservation organisation of its kind in our REGION. The Second oldest waterfowl reserve in the world after the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, Slimbridge, UK, founded by Sir Peter Scott, who designed the PaPWFT’s logo. The Patron of the Heritage Petroleum Company Ltd is the Patron of the PaPWFT.
The following endangered waterfowl and birds were stolen from the Trust over World Environment Day. Paria Company Security officers are aware of this horrendous theft.
A total of 49 endangered waterfowl consisting of White-faced Whistling Ducks, Fulvous Whistling Ducks, 25 Wild Muscy ducklings in a carrying case solen from our Hatchery whose door was bashed in and a brand new large incubator stolen containing 6 white-faced whistling ducks at the time.
The wild Muscovy was locally extirpated in the 1950s (French) and donations of breeding pairs from Slimbridge & Holland to the PaPWFT resulted in the Trust’s breed and release programme releasing 8000+ birds into existing wildlife habitats in Trinidad, including the Nariva Wetlands. Also stolen were 5 endangered Blue & Gold Macaws. Thank goodness that to celebrate the 55th Anniversary of the PaPWFT 2 releases of 15 of these endangered Blue & Gold Macaws were done!
